2 Samuel 14: 14 For we will surely die and become like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.
The wise woman from Tekoa whom Joab sent to David had come to David with a story about her son needing redemption. She tells David that in the same way as God has made a way to redeem banished man, so David should find a means to redeem his banished son Absalom.
